Description

For a side project I decided to make characters from the super mario brothers universe somewhat realistic/comic bookish and give them backgrounds and stories that make sense. For example..why are goomba's evil, why are they called mushroom people?

Here we have the second round of enemies, these are enemies of the deep. While not minions of Bowser, these creatures tend to inadvertently assist him simply because of their dangerous status.

Cheep Cheeps: These flying fish are known to jump out of the water to attack their prey in hoards, showing that their is strength in numbers. Given their name because of the "cheep cheep" sound they make out of water, paired with their bird like ability to fly. They are not able to change their directions mid air and are generally able to stay above water for about 1.3 minutes tops. Their schools tend to swarm once they spot their prey, which is generally frogs (explaining why they tend to attack mario in his frog suit) Toads *mushroom people* and smaller fish and birds.

Puffer Cheep: These Cheeps have spiny apparatus's that sprout on their back. When they sense danger they inflate, causing the spikes to shoot up. Once inflated they are not able to jump out of the water, they can however float for prey.

Rip Van Fish: These fish are known to somehow make electrical discharges. Most animals know better than to go by them, however they "play dead" or pretend to sleep until some unlucky being gets close enough to them, then they snap up with lightning speed and attack.

Big Bertha and Little Cheeps: This giant fish of the Cheep family is large enough to swallow a full sized human whole. It can not fly however it does jump out of the water to engulf prey in mid air. This fish swims very fast despite its size.
Another interesting thing about this fish are the baby cheeps that it keeps in its mouth and raises until they are adult cheep cheeps. Generally baby cheeps arent very dangerous, but they are well protected by this predatory giant of the deep.
